Foods To Slim Down; Foods that Fatten

Dear Dr,
Can you give me a list of foods to avoid so that I will not become fat? Are there any foods that will help me to become slim? I’ll really appreciate it if you can help me with this question. Thank you

Researchers followed 120,877 U.S. women and men, free of chronic diseases and not obese at baseline, from 1986-2006. The relationships between changes in lifestyle factors and weight change were evaluated at four-year intervals (N Engl J Med, June 23, 2011;364:2392-2404). In each four-year period, participants gained an average of 3.35 lb. Weight gain was most strongly associated with the following foods:

FOODS THAT MAKE YOU FAT:
• French fries (3.35 lb)
• potato chips (1.69 lb)
• boiled, baked, or mashed potatoes (0.57 lb)
• all non-water drinks except milk (includes artificial sweetened drinks):
• sugar-sweetened beverages (1.00 lb)
• fruit juices (about 1 lb)
• unprocessed red meats (0.95 lb)
• processed meats (0.93 lb)
• sweets and desserts (0.41 lb per serving per day)
• flour (0.39 lb per serving per day)

HABITS THAT MAKE YOU FAT
• drinking alcohol (0.41 lb for each drink per day)
• quitting smoking (new quitters, 5.17 lb; former smokers, 0.14 lb)
• too much or too little sleep (<6 or >8 hours of sleep)
• television watching (0.31 lb per hour per day)

FOODS THAT KEEP YOU SLIM
• vegetables (-0.22 lb)
• whole grains (-0.37 lb)
• fruits (-0.49 lb)
• nuts (-0.57 lb)
• yogurt (-0.82 lb - May change bacteria in intestines that help absorb foods)

HABITS THAT KEEP YOU SLIM
• Exercise (-1.76 lb)
